Studies of local anaesthetics: Part 205. Studies of stability of heptacainium chloride and carbisocainium chloride using an accelerated non-isothermal test

Mária Stankovičová, Andrea Lašáková, Veronika Medlenová, Želmíra Bezáková, Jozef Čižmárik

Čes. slov. farm. 2014, 63(4):160-166 | DOI: 10.36290/csf.2014.032

The paper studies the kinetics of alkaline hydrolysis and stability under non-isothermal conditions of heptacainium chloride and carbisocainium chloride in the medium of aqueous-ethanolic solution of sodium hydroxide c = 0.1 mol/l and buffer solutions of values of pH 7.0 and pH 8.0. The results of the study of the kinetics of hydrolysis by means of anon-isothermal test - rate constants and activation energy values served as the basis for exact evaluation of the stability of these potential pharmaceuticals. The objective of the paper links up with the previous studies of these substances.

In vivo testing of new ultrashort-acting β-blockers with the effect on systolic blood pressure and heart rate

Ondrej Baďo, Marek Frydrych, Eliška Kolmanová, Markéta Dlouhá

Čes. slov. farm. 2014, 63(4):167-173 | DOI: 10.36290/csf.2014.033

In this experiment, newly synthesized ultrashort-acting blockers of β-adrenergic receptors were tested. Compounds were synthesized at the Department of Chemical Drugs of Pharmaceutical Faculty VFU Brno as esters of aryloxyaminopropanol, thereby gaining a very short half-life in blood plasma. Experiment was conducted in vivo in a rat model. Changes in systolic blood pressure and heart rate were monitored by invasive method in normotensive rats. The values of blood pressure and heart rate were recorded for 20 minutes following the i.v. administration of tested substances or placebo into the jugular vein. In the experiment was tested...

Prick of conscience in the pharmaceutical profession

Božena Macešková, Michaela Hobzová

Čes. slov. farm. 2014, 63(4):174-177 | DOI: 10.36290/csf.2014.034

The work of the pharmacist in a pharmacy requires from him not only to solve professional and economic issues, but often the ethical ones as well. For a patient's good it is necessary to choose a morally correct decision, but the fulfilment of any patient's wish according to his or her own ideas of good is not a law for the health worker. The paper describes the situations when the pharmacist when fulfilling the requirement of the patient (often in the form of a medical prescription) may feel prick of conscience. A questionnaire survey has revealed that prick of conscience confronts more often those who are being trained for the profession than those...

Metabolic syndrome - dysregulation of adipose tissue endocrine function

Kateřina Horská, Jana Kučerová, Pavel Suchý, Hana Kotolová

Čes. slov. farm. 2014, 63(4):152-159 | DOI: 10.36290/csf.2014.031

Metabolic syndrome, acondition increasing cardiovascular morbidity, mortality and risk for diabetes mellitus type 2, is currently worldwide reaching epidemic proportions. This complex disorder represents an urgent challenge for new pharmacotherapeutic strategies formulation. Pathophysiological mechanisms underlying metabolic syndrome are not completely understood, nevertheless growing evidence is supporting the hypothesis that multiple metabolic dysregulations do contribute to its development. Apotential target for pharmacological intervention is considered to be dysregulation of adipose tissue endocrine/paracrine function. Specific adipokines, proteins...

Rationalization in 20th-century Czechoslovak pharmacy practice - Commission for Rationalization and Standardization in Medicine, Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy - Part 2

Jan Babica, Václav Rusek

Čes. slov. farm. 2014, 63(4):178-183 | DOI: 10.36290/csf.2014.035

In interwar Czechoslovakia health care, an increased attention paid to the new ideas of scientific management (Taylorism), work rationalization and standardization led to the establishment of the Commission for Rationalization and Standardization in Medicine, Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy (RANOK) within the Department of Natural Science and Medicine of the Masaryk Academy of Work. Within RANOK, the group for pharmacy worked between 1928 and 1932. The first part of the paper described the scientific management and standardization movement in interwar Czechoslovakia, the establishment of Masaryk Academy of Work and RANOK, and work objectives of RANOK...
