A study of the properties of tablets from coprocessed dry binders composed of α-lactose monohydrate and different types of cellulose
J. Mužíková, J. Zvolánková
Čes. slov. farm. 2007, 56(6):269-275
The paper evaluates the differences between the properties of tablets from two coprocessed dry binders based on α-lactose monohydrate and cellulose, MicroceLac®100 and Cellactose®80. The substances differ in the type of contained cellulose; MicroceLac®100 contains 25% of microcrystalline cellulose, Cellactose®80, 25% of powdered cellulose. The properties under study included the tensile strength and disintegration time in dependence on compression force, addition of two concentrations of the lubricant sodium stearylfumarate (Pruv) and a 50% addition of the active ingredients ascorbic...
Experience with ciclesonide in patients with mild persistent bronchial asthma
L. Bartošíková, J. Nečas, L. Fráňa, T. Bartošík
Čes. slov. farm. 2007, 56(6):276-279
The study aimed to monitor the effectiveness and safety of the treatment with ciclesonide, administered once a day in a 160 μg dose, over a 3-month period, to a group of 100 patients diagnosed with mild persistent bronchial asthma with deterioration of problems after exercise. The results of the study prove significant positive effects of the preparation used. A significant improvement of FEV1 and PEF values was observed, as well as a statistically significant remission of both day and nocturnal symptoms of the disease, a significantly lower consumption of shortacting β2-sympathomimetics, and an improvement of all evaluated...
Flavonoid accumulation in Scutellaria baicalensis Georgii in vitro cultures upon treatment with sodium cinnamate
J. Martin, J. Dušek
Čes. slov. farm. 2007, 56(6):280-283
The production of secondary metabolites by plant cell cultures has been suggested as a feasible technology that attracted considerable industrial and academic interest in the past three decades. However, many secondary pathways are not well expressed in plant cell cultures. Optimization of culture medium, elicitation, genetic engineering and the supply of biosynthetic precursors are among the strategies adopted to increase secondary metabolite production in vitro. In this study, the effects of five potential biosynthetic precursors on the production of baicalin and baicalein in Scutellaria baicalensis Georgii suspension and callus cultures were measured....
Evaluation of mechanical strength of tablets from microcrystalline cellulose by means of energetic parameters
M. Řehula
Čes. slov. farm. 2007, 56(6):284-287
The paper aims to describe a new method for the evaluation of mechanical strength of tablets. The classic pharmacopoeial method of measurement of strength of tablets examines the strength at which the tablet breaks, the found strength being expressed in N. The proposed method of measurement of tablet strength is based on the strength-course record, determined during the process of crushing. This method determines not only the crushing force (DS) in N and the radial strength (RP) in MPa calculated from it, but also other parameters, such as the course of crushing d in mm, the rate constant of crushing process in kNmm-1, the deformation energy...

Oxycellulose - a cellulose derivative with a potential to become an active pharmaceutical substance as well as an auxiliary substance
J. Gajdziok, M. Bajerová, Z. Chalupová, R. Masteiková
Čes. slov. farm. 2007, 56(6):259-263
The review article is focused on one of the wide range of pharmaceutically and medicinally employed cellulose derivates - oxycellulose. This substance, prepared by oxidation of cellulose, in contrast to cellulose esters and ethers, has not been not employed in practice in a wide extent yet. However, recent studies reveal its potential use in modern therapeutical systems, whether as a release-modifying excipient, a drug carrier, or also an active substance with ability of hemostasis, prevention of tissue adhesion after surgical operations, and a substance with antimicrobial and immunomodulating activity, whose unique property of biodegradability, promoted...
Physiology and pharmacology of hyaluronic acid
E. Svanovský
Čes. slov. farm. 2007, 56(6):264-268
Hyaluronic acid represents one of the main components of the extracellular matrices. Its physical-chemical and biological properties offer a wide spectrum of use of this molecule, both in industry and medical sciences. The review paper presents our contemporary knowledge gained in the research of hyaluronic acid, describing its principal behaviour in physiological and pathological processes as well as its principal pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties.

EXPERTA - the first company specializing in scientific evaluation of medicaments
L. Valášková
Čes. slov. farm. 2007, 56(6):288-293
The Experta Company, specializing in scientific evaluation of medicaments, was founded in the city of Brno in 1933. Its main task was to control medicaments and mass-produced medicinal preparations, the so-called specialties, offered for their evaluation by pharmaceutical factories. The specialties were analysed using chemical, pharmacological, pharmaceutical, and biological methods. The analyses took place in the laboratories of the Medical Faculty and the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Masaryk University in Brno, and also at the College of Veterinary Surgeons in Brno. The main aim of Experta was to confirm and openly show that the composition of specialties...
