Eva Klásková, Sabina Kaprálová, Alžběta Palátová, Josef Vičar, Blažena Ševčíková

Čes. slov. farm. 2025, 74(4):222-227 | DOI: 10.36290/csf.2025.035

Arterial hypertension (AH) is a serious health problem that begins in childhood and adolescence and contributes significantly to the early development of ischemic heart disease in adulthood. The prevalence of AH in childhood is approximately 2-5 %. Secondary aetiology of AH is significantly more common in children than in adults. Within paediatric populations, primary AH treatment regimens prioritise non-pharmacological interventions. The selection of an appropriate antihypertensive treatment is dependent on the underlying aetiology of hypertension, whilst also considering the presence of any concomitant comorbidities.

Self-treatment of cough in respiratory infections

Hana Kotolová

Čes. slov. farm. 2025, 74(4):264-271 | DOI: 10.36290/csf.2025.043

Cough is one of the most common symptoms with which patients search pharmaceutical care. Most cases have a viral etiology and do not require medical intervention, therefore the pharmacist has a key role in patient education and in recommending appropriate self-treatment. Correct differentiation of the type of cough and selection of appropriate treatment can significantly shorten the duration of the problem and prevent further complications. For dry cough, short-term administration of antitussives is appropriate, while for wet cough, mucolytics or expectorants are recommended. Regimen measures are also an integral part of self-treatment.

Topical application of vitamin C and its derivatives in dermatology and cosmetics

Hana Hořavová, Kateřina Brückner

Čes. slov. farm. 2025, 74(4):272-275 | DOI: 10.36290/csf.2025.044

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is a highly valued bioactive substance with extensive use in dermatology and cosmetics. Its main effects are strong antioxidant capacity, collagen synthesis boosting, depigmentation effect and improvement of the skin barrier. Due to these properties, it is a popular ingredient in preparations intended for the prevention of aging and correction of photodamage. Despite its biological efficacy, topical use of vitamin C represents a technological challenge due to its low stability and limited ability to penetrate the skin. The work summarizes the key factors influencing its efficacy - including concentration, pH, formulation and...
