Medicines containing both a herbal extract and a synthetic substance are in high demand due to their beneficial effects and synergism. The novel combination of salbutamol sulfate and Hedera helix extracts seems to be prospective in terms of pharmacological activity. But for quality assurance, impurities of the synthetic component have to be determined and quantified. Plant extracts consist of various phytochemical components, therefore, it is more complicated to develop a selective analytical method due to the sample matrix. To prove the safety and efficacy of the dosage form, a new HPLC method for analysis of salbutamol sulfate impurities was...
Automated preparation of radiopharmaceuticals as a tool of radiation protection optimisation of staff

Preparation of radiopharmaceuticals means everyday exposure to ionizing radiation for pharmaceutical workers. Manual preparation of positron radio-pharmaceuticals may be a risk in exceeding the legisla-tive limits for radiation workers, in particular in finger dosimetry. Instrumental methods of preparation of radiopharmaceuticals can serve as an effective tool of radiation protection. The present study deals with the evaluation of the results of personal dosimetry in workers preparing the radiopharmaceutical 18F-FDG with the use of instrumental methods of preparation of this radiopharmaceutical. The results of the paper show a clear decrease...
The hepatoprotective effect of the combination of glucosamine derivatives with quercetin against methotrexate-induced liver toxicity

Čes. slov. farm. 2020, 69(5):222-229 | DOI: 10.36290/csf.2020.031
The article presents the results of the study of the combination of aminosugars - glucosamine hydrochloride (GA h/ch) and N-acetylglucosamine - with quercetin (Q) called GlukvamineTM as a corrector of hepatotoxicity induced by methotrexate (MTX). The study was conducted on a model of MTX-induced liver damage in rats. GlukvamineTM was studied in the dose of 82 mg/kg with daily intragastric administration for 10 days compared to the substance GA h/ch, which was administered intragastrically at a dose of 50 mg/kg, and the substance of Q, which was administered intragastrically in the dose of 20.5 mg/kg. The efficiency of the drugs...
Meropenem serum concentrations in intensive care patients: a retrospective analysis

Čes. slov. farm. 2020, 69(5):230-236 | DOI: 10.36290/csf.2020.032
Objectives: To determine whether currently used meropenem dosages in our hospital provide adequate serum concentrations. Methods: Trough blood samples taken during the first meropenem concentration monitoring were included. For the evaluation of achievement of the pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) target, MIC of the pathogens defined by the European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility testing was selected. Results: Eighty three patients were enrolled. A large variability in meropenem trough serum concentrations was observed (median 34.3 mg/L, range < 1.0-146.1 mg/L). The lowest PK/PD target for susceptible...

The paper is focused on development of a simple analytical method based on capillary zone electro-phoresis in combination with UV-detection for simul-taneous detemination of thiamine and pyridoxine in pharmaceutical and food samples. The separation of thiamine and pyridoxine was performed in a background electrolyte composed of 25 mmol ∙ l-1 GABA + 50 mmol ∙ l-1 HAc+ 0.05% m-HEC. The UV detector was set at the constant wavelength of 260 nm. Limit of detection was 0.059 µg ∙ ml-1 for thiamine and 0.23 µg ∙ ml-1 for pyridoxine. These levels suggest that relatively low...

Čes. slov. farm. 2020, 69(5):203-210 | DOI: 10.36290/csf.2020.028
The prevalence of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR--TB) and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR--TB) has been increasing at an alarming rate worldwide. Today's "Fight against Tuberculosis" programmes in the Russian Federation are subsidized by state and regional governments as well as health authorities. Each region has its own specific characteristics and needs specific interventions. Although some novel anti-tuberculosis (anti-TB) drugs ( bedaquiline, delamanid) were approved by relevant authorities, and some promising compounds, especially those of oxazolidinones, are in various phases of clinical trials worldwide, the...
