A study of the properties of tablets from the mixtures of directly compressible starch and directly compressible lactitol

J. Mužíková, J. Vajglová

Čes. slov. farm. 2007, 56(4):183-189

The paper deals with the evaluation of tablets from the mixtures of directly compressible starch Starch 1500® and directly compressible lactitol Lacty®-Tab in a ratio of 3:1 and 1:1. The examination included the tensile strength and disintegration time of tablets in dependence on compression force, addition of two concentrations of sodium stearyl fumarate (Pruv) as the lubricant, and a 50% content of the model active ingredient acetylsalicylic acid. Tensile strength of tablets increased with compression force and the effect of Pruv decreased it in both mixtures. Tablets from the mixture of dry binders in a ratio 1:1 without...

The effect of polymeric dispersion type on the release of diclofenac sodium from coated pellets

K. Krejčová, M. Rabišková, D. Vetchý, V. Tomášek, A. Prokopová

Čes. slov. farm. 2007, 56(4):190-199

Recently, coated pellets have gained attention of the pharmaceutical industry as they represent a relatively easy way leading to controlled drug release. Pellets of appropriate properties containing approx. 40 % of diclofenac sodium were prepared by roto-agglomeration. For the coating, two different aqueous dispersions (Surelease® and Eudragit®RS 30 D) were selected. Generally, the drug release rate slowed down as the coating load increased from 10 to 22 %. However, big differences between diclofenac sodium release from pellets coated with Surelease® and Eudragit®RS30D at equivalent coating...

Testing of antidiabetic and antioxidative effect of the flavonoid osajin in an experiment

J. Fráňová, M. Pavlík

Čes. slov. farm. 2007, 56(4):200-204

The antidiabetic and antioxidative effect of osajin was monitored under the conditions of alloxaninduced diabetes mellitus in an in vivo experiment. The animals were divided by random selection into 2 groups (n=7). The treated group was administered osajin in peroral doses of 10 mg/kg in Avicel, the placebo diabetic group was given only the solution of Avicel, and the last group was intact. Selected laboratory parameters (glucose, urea, cholesterol, antioxidative enzymes, total antioxidative capacity, malondialdehyde in serum, diuresis, total glucose and protein losses through urine) were determined in all animals. Kidney tissue and pancreas samples...

Applications of molecularly imprinted polymers in analytical and pharmaceutical chemistry

M. Lachová, J. Lehotay, J. Čižmárik

Čes. slov. farm. 2007, 56(4):159-164

The paper reviews recent developments in the use of molecularly imprinted polymers in several analytical techniques, such as solid-phase extraction, liquid chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, capillary electrochromatography, and as selective sorbents in chemical sensors. Molecular imprinting is achieved by the interaction between complementary groups in a template molecule and functional monomer units. The benefits of imprinted polymers are low cost, storage stability, high mechanical strength, repeated operations without loss of activity, and potential application to a wide range of target molecules.

Interactions of food and dietary supplements with drug metabolising cytochrome P450 enzymes

J. Nekvindová, P. Anzenbacher

Čes. slov. farm. 2007, 56(4):165-173

Drug side effects and toxicity and often the drug efficacy are highly dependent on drug metabolism determining the activation and/or elimination of the respective compound. In humans, cytochromes P450 are the most important drug metabolizing enzymes of the first phase of drug biotransformation. Their activity can vary due to interindividual genetic differences, but it can be changed also by inhibition or induction of the enzymes by their substrates or other compounds that are not only drugs themselves and/or drugs taken concomitantly. Often, influence on drug metabolism by compounds that occur in the environment, most remarkably in the food, is forgotten....

T-2 toxin: occurrence and detection

V. Dohnal, A. Ježková, K. Kuča, D. Jun

Čes. slov. farm. 2007, 56(4):174-177

The paper is focused on the occurrence and methods for the detection of T-2 toxin, one of the most toxic trichothecene Fusarium mycotoxin. Due to its physical-chemical properties and high toxicity, T-2 toxin is classified as a potential biological warfare agent.

Voltage gated calcium channels: structure, characteristics and terminology

L. Veizerová, J. Světlík, V. Kettmann

Čes. slov. farm. 2007, 56(4):178-182

Voltage-gated Ca2+ channels are the major pathway of Ca2+ entry into the cells. Their activity is essential to couple electrical signals from the cell surface to physiological events in cells. Several pharmacologically, structurally and kinetically distinct calcium channel types have been identified at the electrophysiological and molecular levels. This review aims to describe the functional, structural and pharmacological properties of voltage-gated calcium channels.
