On the development of first aid kits composition
Jozef Kolář, Tünde Ambrus
Čes. slov. farm. 2021, 70(1):26-31 | DOI: 10.5817/CSF2021-1-26
The paper compares the composition of selected types of first aid kits listed in the Czechoslovak branch standard's editions (ON 84 6635 First Aid Kits, 1968, 1976, 1989). The authors focused only on evaluating the development of medicine representation. During the study period, a total of 17 medicinal products belonging to the four main ATC groups were represented in wall-mounted first-aid kits, five types of products from the three main ATC groups in travel first-aid kits, and ten types of products from the four main ATC groups in medical bags. The total number of medicinal products in the individual editions of the branch standard decreased.

Microparticles based on biodegradable synthetic lactic acid and glycolic acid copolymer (PLGA) were successfully prepared by the solvent evaporation method. Ibuprofen was chosen as the model drug. Various formulation and process parameters have been used to prepare each sample with emphasis on size reduction. The effect of the emulsification method (direct emulsification or emulsification using an ULTRA-TURRAX or a NE-1000 dispenser), the volume of the aqueous phase (200, 800 ml) and the stirring speed of the emulsion system (600, 1000 rpm) on the characteristic properties of microparticles, such as encapsulation efficiency, drug loading and particle...

Further development of the content of the national part of the Czech Pharmacopoeia 2017 in its supplements from the point of view of drug preparation in pharmacies
Jan Šubert, Jozef Kolář
Čes. slov. farm. 2021, 70(1):3-6 | DOI: 10.5817/CSF2021-1-3
The paper deals with developing the national part of the Czech Pharmacopoeia 2017 (CL 2017) in its supplements from 2018, 2019, and 2020. It focuses on the preparation of medicinal products in pharmacies. The possibilities of further developing the national part of the CL 2017 to accelerate the necessary changes in its content are also discussed.
General inhalational anesthetics - pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics and chiral properties
Ružena Čižmáriková, Ladislav Habala, Mário Markuliak
Čes. slov. farm. 2021, 70(1):7-17 | DOI: 10.5817/CSF2021-1-7
Since the advent of nitric oxide, diethyl ether, chloroform and cyclopropane, the greatest advancement in the area of general inhalational anesthetics has been achieved by the introduction of fluorinated anesthetics and the relevant chiral techniques. This progress led to marked decrease in mortality rates in anesthesia. In the group of chiral fluorinated compounds, halothane (Fluotan®), isoflurane (Foran®), desflurane (Supran®) and enflurane (Ehran®) are deployed as volatile anesthetics. Chiral anesthetics possess a stereogenic center in their molecules and thus exist as two enantiomers (S)-(+) and (R)-(-). Although these...
Triazavirin might be the new hope to fight Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)
Ivan Malík, Jozef Čižmárik, Mária Pecháčová, Gustáv Kováč, Lucia Hudecová
Čes. slov. farm. 2021, 70(1):18-25 | DOI: 10.5817/CSF2021-1-18
Since the beginning of the outbreak, a large number of clinical trials have been registered worldwide, and thousands of drugs have been investigated to face new health emergency of highly contagious COVID-19 caused by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Drug repurposing, i.e., utilizing an approved drug for a different indication, offers a time- and cost-efficient alternative for making new (relevant) therapies available to physicians and patients. Considering given strategy, many approved and investigational antiviral compounds, alone or in various relevant combinations, used in the past to fight Severe Acute Respiratory...
