Čes. slov. farm. 2023, 72(6):276-286 | DOI: 10.5817/CSF2023-6-276
Introduction: The rate of pharmacoresistance among in patients diagnosed with schizophrenia is around 30%. Clozapineis the drug of choice for these patients; however, an adequate response to treatment doesn't always occur. One of the possible augmentation approaches, specifically for non-adherent patients, is the administration of long-acting parenteral antipsychotics. Our goal was to evaluate previous experiences of administering a combination of the atypical antipsychotic clozapine and long-acting injectable antipsychotics to pharmacoresistant patients at the Department of Psychiatry the Czech Republic and to assess the safety and effectiveness...

Čes. slov. farm. 2023, 72(6):287-295 | DOI: 10.5817/CSF2023-6-287
Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a symptomatic complex characterized by insulin resistance, impaired prooxidant-antioxidantbalance of the body with the development of subchronic inflammation, and dyslipidemia. The aim of the study is to investigate the effect of a complex pharmaceutical composition (CPC) (antioxidants and metabolitotropic agents), which is widely used in medical practice in Ukraine as a multivitamin complex, on experimental metabolic syndrome in rats. The effectof CPC on the correction of experimental MetS in rats, induced by a high content of carbohydrates and fats in the diet, was assessed. MetS in rats was characterized by a decrease...

The article analyzes the results of a set of biochemical indicators in the course of treatment with the combined use of rosuvastatin with quercetin in patients with metabolic syndrome (MS) combined with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.Changes in blood biochemical parameters have been identified and presented with MS, essential for revealing generalbiological mechanisms development and interrelationship between the components of MS and non-alcoholic fatty liver. The effect of an increase in free cholesterol and triglycerides and activation of freeradical oxidation of lipids followed by theaccumulation of oxidative stress products was noted.In...

Proper medication administration in relation to beverage or food is one of the essential tools to achieve the pharmacotherapy goals. It is not known whether this is also considered in the care of inpatients. The aim of this study was to describe and analyse the current practice of medication administration in relation to food and beverages to patients hospitalized in four hospitals in the Czech Republic. This study was conducted based on the results of the first phase of a prospective observation study focused on the safety of medication administration performed by nurses. All data, including the timing of medication administration in relation to...

Ethical aspects of conducting clinical trials of human medicinal products
Anetta Jedličková
Čes. slov. farm. 2023, 72(6):256-266 | DOI: 10.5817/CSF2023-6-256
The conduct of clinical trials of investigational medicinal products brings, in clinical research with the participation of human subjects, various ethical concerns, which should be competently addressed. In clinical research, adherence to ethical principles plays an essential role in the safety of clinical trial participants, as well as in minimizing risks to the integrity and validity of data collected and analyzed during the conduct of clinical trials. The article contains an overview of the most important legal regulations and ethical standards that regulate the field of clinical trials. Furthermore, the paper focuses on some of the most important...
Brief insight into the in silico properties, structure-activity relationships and biotransformation of fruquintinib, an anticancer drug of a new generation containing a privileged benzofuran scaffold

Čes. slov. farm. 2023, 72(6):267-275 | DOI: 10.5817/CSF2023-6-267
Current trends in drug design notably consider so-called privileged scaffolds as the core structural fragments with decisive impact on affinity to properly chosen biological targets, potency, selectivity and toxicological characteristics of drugs and prospective drug candidates. Fruquintinib ( 1) is a novel synthetic selective inhibitor of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR) isoforms, i.e., VEGFR-1, VEGFR-2 and VEGFR-3. The therapeutic agent ( 1) consists of a flat bicyclic heteroaromatic ring, in which two nitrogens are suitablyincorporated, a core bicyclic heteroaromatic ring - privileged (substituted) benzofuran...

On the history and development of some changes in pharmacy practice - work safety in pharmacies
Jozef Kolář, Tünde Ambrus
Čes. slov. farm. 2023, 72(6):311-315 | DOI: 10.5817/CSF2023-6-311
The paper focuses on selected aspects of occupational safety in pharmacies. Using a case in the second half of the 19th century in Reeb's pharmacy, "At the Stork" in Strasbourg, demonstrates the risks to which people working in pharmacies could be exposed. Cases and situations of a similar nature have become the impetus for professional discussions and more thorough workplace safety and property protection in pharmacies in the following period.

Ladislav Svatoš, Ladislava Valášková
Čes. slov. farm. 2023, 72(6):316-321 | DOI: 10.5817/CSF2023-6-316
The study deals with the history of pharmaceutical exlibris bookplates within the territory of the present-day Czech Republic. Since the end of the 19th century 1332 ex-libris bookplates of pharmacists were identified to this day. Initially, the creation of ex-libris was associated with social group of pharmacy owners, after the WWII it managed to adapt to new circumstances of socialist pharmacy and again to new conditions after 1989. Significant influence on this phenomenon had several personalities of Czech pharmacy - above all Mojmír Helcelet, Vincenc Bosák and Václav Rusek.
