Neuroinflammation plays an important role in the pathogenesis of epilepsy, so it is necessary to clarify the influence of standard antiepileptic drugs as well as adjuvant agents (e.g., cardiac glycoside digoxin, which previously showed a clear anticonvulsant potential) on cyclooxygenase pathway and neuron-specific enolase under the conditions of chronic epileptogenesis. The aim of the article is to determine the effect of digoxin, sodium valproate, and celecoxib per se, as well as the combination of digoxin with sodium valproate on the content of cyclooxygenase 1 and 2 types, prostaglandins E2, F2α, I2, thromboxane B2, 8-isoprostane and...

The most promising direction in the treatment of chronic prostatitis is the use of medicinal plants and preparations based on them, which contain natural compounds with a broad spectrum of pharmacological activity: anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, reparative, immunomodulatory, hormone-regulating, antisclerotic, etc., and which can provide a complex therapeutic effect on the course of chronic prostatitis. A promising raw material in this direction is Tribulus terrestris L., a herbal preparation traditionally used to treat erectile dysfunction and atherosclerosis. This experimental work aims to study the anti-inflammatory activity of a thick...

The main goal of this article is to present the results of the synthesis of new alkyl derivatives of 5-(2-bromo4-fluorophenyl)-4-ethyl-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol and molecular docking studies against COX-1 and COX-2. Previous studies have established a wide range of biological activity of 1,2,4-triazole derivatives. Therefore, it was essential to determine how a new series of 1,2,4-triazole derivatives would provide potential anti-inflammatory activity. To reach the goal, raw alkyl derivatives of 5-(2-bromo-4-fluorophenyl)-4-ethyl-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiols ( 2a-2i) from 5-(2-bromo-4-fluorophenyl)-4-ethyl-4H-1,2,4-triazole3-thiol...

Čes. slov. farm. 2023, 72(4):155-164 | DOI: 10.5817/CSF2023-4-155
In continuation of our published review on general inhalational anesthetics, the current article presents a survey of intravenous agents for general anaesthesia. From chemical point of view these compounds belong to structurally diverse categories, such as barbiturates - thiopental (Sodium pentothal®, Trapanal®, Pentothal®), methohexital (Brevital®), and hexobarbital (Evipan®, Hexenal®, Citopan®, Tobinal®); non-barbiturate derivatives - ketamine (Ketalar® Ketaset®), esketamine (Ketanest®), and etomidate (Amidate®, Hypnomidate®), phenolic derivatives - propofol (Diprivan®); steroid derivatives...
Diazotization titrations in pharmacopoeial quality control of medicines and proposals for their revision in the European Pharmacopoeia

Based on the data in the Ph. Eur., some other newer pharmacopoeias and published experimental papers propose to revise the text of Ph. Eur. 2.5.8. First, it is necessary to specify which of the electrometric methods should be used to indicate the endpoint of diazotization titrations in Ph. Eur. (preferable potentiometry with a platinum indicating electrode). The amount of potassium bromide in the titration solution may be reduced to 1 g, the cooling of the solution before titration may be omitted from the framework procedure, and it may be specified in individual monographs if necessary to obtain accurate and correct results for some medicines. Diazotization...
