New trends in advanced parkinson disease stage therapy

The aim of the study was to point out the contribution of new invasive therapeutic procedures in the treatment of advanced stages of Parkinson's disease (PD) in comparison with classical oral pharmacotherapy. Data originated from a group of 43 patients with PD, 39% (17) with classic treatment, 23% (10) with intestinal gel of methyl ester levodopa (Duodopa), 19% (8) of patients were using subcutaneous delivery of apomorphine (APO) and the same quantity of patients had undergone deep brain stimulation (DBS). The study defines the basic terminological structure associated with the concepts of prescribing and medication use in relation to polypharmacy. Correctly naming the current prescription or use of a medication by a particular patient allows for the selection of an appropriate change to minimize the medication burden. The aim remains to maintain the desired therapeutic outcomes with an improved quality of life.

This study provides new empirical evidence on the changes in competition and entry decisions of pharmacies after regulatory changes. It investigates the development of the retail pharmacy market in Portugal, which underwent major regulatory changes in 2004 and 2007. As a result of the dramatic increase in the prevalence of overweight and obesity among children, childhood obesity is one of the most critical global public health challenges of the 21st century. Weight gain occurs when energy intake exceeds energy expenditure. Both genetic and environmental factors (such as a sedentary lifestyle) are implicated in its pathogenesis.
