The main component of Ophiocordyceps sinensis and Cordyceps militaris extracts are polysaccharides. These are natural biopolymers that represent a large class of biologically active components. These contribute to their pharmacological activity and effect on health. They contain monosaccharides that include rhamnose, ribose, arabinose, xylose, mannose, glucose, galactose, mannitol, fructose, and sorbose. The exopolysaccharide fraction has a large number of pharmacological effects, the two most important of which are immunomodulatory and antitumour. Among the contained polysaccharides is also mannoglucan, which shows weak cytotoxic activity...

Čes. slov. farm. 2022, 71(6):239-244 | DOI: 10.5817/CSF2022-6-239
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has plagued the human population as 2019 turned into 2020, when first cases were confirmed to be infected with the pathogen in Wuhan City, the largest mega-city and capital of Hubei Province in Central China. Since this time, many pharmacotherapeutic modalities were suggested and used to treat the patients suffering from COVID-19. Triazavirin (TZV; riamilovir) is a synthetic non-toxic broad-spectrum antiviral drug belonging into an azolotriazine class. Several hypotheses and suggestions based on the knowledge about morphology,...

Čes. slov. farm. 2022, 71(6):245-250 | DOI: 10.5817/CSF2022-6-245
The contribution captures three basic concepts of the term polypharmacy. The analysis of four bibliographic databases demonstrates the importance of the correct and uniform use of terminology. It also approximates the most common numerical expression of the level of polypharmacy and the most common extended terms of polypharmacy.

Čes. slov. farm. 2022, 71(6):251-258 | DOI: 10.5817/CSF2022-6-251
The presented review article is a compilation of several foreign reviews and experimental papers, as well as several authority guidelines, which deal with the phenomenon of dose dumping of solid dosage forms with modified drug release. The aim of the publication is to present this often-neglected issue to a wider domestic audience. The work deals with two basic types of dose dumping, i.e., alcohol-induced dose dumping and food-induced dose dumping. It contains basic factors affecting this phenomenon as well as possible formulation solutions that can be used to eliminate it. Last but not least, the current requirements of the authorities are also mentioned,...
