Influence of formulation and process parameters on the characteristics of PLGA-based microparticles with controlled drug release
Jakub Vysloužil, Martina Kejdušová, Kateřina Dvořáčková, David Vetchý
Čes. slov. farm. 2013, 62(3):120-126
PLGA microparticles for sustained release of ibuprofen as the model drug were prepared by the O/W solvent evaporation method under altering stirring speed (600, 1000 rpm), emulsifier concentration (PVA concentration 0.1%, 1%) and organic solvent selection (dichloromethane, ethyl acetate). The obtained results confirmed the effect of selected formulation and process parameters on the properties of prepared PLGA-based microparticles. An influence on encapsulation efficiency, yield, morphological properties, mean size and drug release was observed. Increased stirring speed within the solvent evaporation process resulted in a decrease of encapsulation...
A study of a new co-processed dry binder based on spray-dried lactose and microcrystalline cellulose
Jitka Mužíková, Pavla Šináglová
Čes. slov. farm. 2013, 62(3):127-131
The paper studies the compressibility and disintegration time of tablets from the co-processed dry binder DisintequikTM MCC in combination with two lubricants at two concentrations in dependence on compression force. It also compares identical parameters in the physical mixtures of the spray-dried lactose Flowlac® 100 and the microcrystalline cellulose Microcel® MC-102 in the ratios of 9 : 1, 8 : 2 and 7 : 3, again in combination with two lubricants of two concentrations at one compression force. The lubricants employed are magnesium stearate and poloxamer 407 in concentrations of 1% and 2%. Compressibility...

Čes. slov. farm. 2013, 62(3):132-135
The formation of micelles of the local anaesthetic pentacaine hydrochloride (K 1902) in methanol solutions at two concentrations was investigated by measuring the absorbance of pyrene in surfactant solution. The absorbance vs. surfactant concentration profiles for all the major UV spectral peaks of pyrene have been found to be sigmoidal in nature which were analyzed according to Sigmoidal-Boltzmann equation to evaluate the cmcs values of the studied systems. The influence of the methanol concentration on the critical micellar concentration was studied. The observed critical micellar concentration rises with an increasing of alcohol.
HPLC determination of saccharides after pre-column derivatization in honey samples
Katarína Hroboňová, Jozef Lehotay, Jozef Čižmárik, Pavol Májek, Martin Tuharský
Čes. slov. farm. 2013, 62(3):136-143
The work is focused on the quality evaluation of Slovak honey samples on the basis of minor saccharide contents. The samples included unifloral and multifloral types of honeys. The saccharide contents were determined by HPLC with fluorescence detection. Derivatization of sugars with dansylhydrazine was used to increase detection sensitivity. The C18 type stationary phase was used for the separation of analytes and the mixture of acetonitrile and acetic acid was used as the mobile phase. The determined carbohydrates were saccharose, maltose, turanose, and also the main sugars glucose and fructose. Limits of detection were in the range from 15 to 100...
Use of human medicinal preparations in veterinary medicine
Pavel Brauner, Jozef Kolář, Alfréd Hera
Čes. slov. farm. 2013, 62(3):144-148
The paper aims to analyze the development of the consumption of human and veterinary medicinal preparations used in veterinary practice in the Czech Republic and the dynamics of the individual ATC groups in the years 2001-2008. In human ATC groups, 14 ATC were examined. The researchers examined trading both from the view of the number of items and their volume. A set of 15 veterinary ATC groups was analogically analyzed. In the set of human ATC groups, in most cases a gradual increase in the number of sold packages and items was observed, in the case of veterinary ATC groups this trend was not observed excepting the ATC groups QC03 - cardiovascular...
Analysis of the consumption of sedative and hypnotic drugs in Yemen and the Czech Republic
Abdullah Al Warafi, Jiří Vlček
Čes. slov. farm. 2013, 62(3):149-153
The aim of this project is to analyze the consumption and reasons for the use of sedative and hypnotic drugs (ATC: N05B and N05C) (SHD) in Yemen (YEM) and to compare this with the consumption of SHD in the Czech Republic (CZ) and in YEM, in the years 2000-2005. In 2005 the consumption of SHD in YEM and in CZ was 0.20 and 6.9 USD/1000 citizens/day, respectively. The consumption of SHD in YEM and in CZ increased after 2000 by 637% and 85%, respectively. A pilot questionnaire tested the factors influencing the consumption of SHD in YEM. 72% of respondents were male; 48% had obtained SHD the first time without a prescription; 90% had engaged in the long...

Warfarin - its synthesis and properties in a twenty-year retrospective
Eva Milatová, Viktor Milata
Čes. slov. farm. 2013, 62(3):111-119
The review paper deals with some aspects of warfarin history and its use, at the beginning as a rodenticide and later as an anticoagulant. It describes its principal physical-chemical properties and it analyzes schematically the possibilities of its preparation by both selective and non-selective synthesis from coumarin derivatives. A survey of syntheses and its results are tabulated, including the literary references, and the paper is concluded with an evaluation of the prospects of this agent in comparison with alternative anticoagulants and its advantages, disadvantages and prospects.
