Prosolv® Easytab as a new multifunctional co-processed dry binder: a study of the properties of tablets and energy evaluation of the compaction process
Jitka Mužíková, Pavlína Mašatová
Čes. slov. farm. 2011, 60(4):182-188
The paper studies the tensile strength and disintegration time of tablets made from the new co-processed dry binder Prosolv® Easytab. The results are compared with Prosolv® SMCC 90 and the physical mixtures of Prosolv SMCC 90 with Explotab (1% or 1.5%) and Pruv (0.5% or 1%). It also evaluates the mixtures with the active ingredients ascorbic acid and acetylsalicylic acid. The process of compaction of the new excipient is studied also from the energetic aspect. The tablets made from the substance Prosolv Easytab possessed a lower strength than those from Prosolv SMCC 90 and the physical mixtures of Prosolv SMCC 90 with...
Antiphlogistic hydrogels based on the white lily
Zuzana Vitková, Daniel Grančai, Mária Haladová, Petra Herdová, Mária Cupáková, Drahomíra Rauová
Čes. slov. farm. 2011, 60(4):189-192
The paper describes the formulation of hydrogels based on carbopol with an ethanol extract of the white lily with an anti-inflammatory effect. The active ingredients of the hydrogel were in the form of 60% and 80% ethanol extracts from the white lily and the ethanol lily extract supplied by Calendula, a. s. Nová Ľubovňa, Slovakia. Flow characteristics of the prepared hydrogels were evaluated by a rotational viscosimeter on the 2nd, 7th, 14th and 28th days after preparation. Based on the achieved results, the best flow characteristics were obtained from 1% carbopol hydrogel with a 2.4% concentration of 80% ethanol lily extract. According to the liberation...
The influence of PVA on the size of oligoester nanoparticles prepared by the emulsion solvent distribution method
Eva Valentová, Eva Šnejdrová, Milan Dittrich
Čes. slov. farm. 2011, 60(4):193-199
Nanoparticles of poly(DL-lactic acid) (PDLLA) were prepared by the emulsion solvent distribution method. The external aqueous phase was composed of 1.5 and 3.0% solutions of three kinds of low molecular weight polyvinylalcohol (PVA) varying in molecular weight and saponification degree. The internal oil phase was made from a 1% solution of PDLLA dissolved in dichloromethane, chloroform and a mixture of these two solvents. Viscosity and surface tension of these phases were not significantly influenced by the selected solvent or solute quality. Contrary to these results, very different values of nanoparticle size were measured by the PCS method and the...

Improving the quality and cost-effectiveness of depression treatment
Liubov Kavaliauskienė, Rimantas Pečiūra, Virginija Adomaitienė, Ruta Masteiková
Čes. slov. farm. 2011, 60(4):159-164
Cost of depression treatment in Lithuania increases depending mainly on depression relapse rates. Depression relapse is in a great extent conditional on the quality of health care after the disease was diagnosed. This study was thus aimed to evaluate the first-time depression treatment and antidepressants use according to three specialists groups opinion. For this purpose 361 pharmacists, 317 family doctors and 280 psychiatrists were interviewed in Lithuania in 2009. The data on depression diagnoses were obtained from the Republic Psychiatric Health Centre. The volume of total depression diagnoses grew up by 12% during the period under study (2004-2009),...
Clinical significance of cytochrome P450 genetic polymorphism - part II. Cytochrome P450 2C9
Jana Ďuricová, Milan Grundmann
Čes. slov. farm. 2011, 60(4):165-170
Cytochrome P450 2C9 is the major enzyme of the cytochrome P450 2C subfamily and metabolizes approximately 10 % of commonly used drugs. Several studies have demonstrated that the CYP2C9 polymorphism is important for several drugs and may be associated with the occurrence of clinically relevant side effects. Part II of this paper focuses on the influence of genetic polymorphism of cytochrome P450 2C9 on drug effect.
Antagonists of angiotensin AT1 receptors
Pavol Ježko, Milan Remko
Čes. slov. farm. 2011, 60(4):171-181
The medicinal agents which block AT1 receptors are used for the treatment of hypertension, cardiac failure, and renal diseases. In clinical practice they have been available already for 15 years. All antagonists of AT1 receptors were projected without any knowledge of the space (3D) structure of the AT1 receptor. At present several strategies of projecting antihypertensive drugs are used, which are based on the influence on a number of receptors (e.g. the endothelial ones), not only angiotensin AT1 receptors. With the use of rational methods of drug projecting based on the knowledge of the spatial structure...
