A study of the compaction process and the properties of tablets from two types of directly compressible sorbitol
J. Mužíková, E. Zemanová
Čes. slov. farm. 2010, 59(2):59-66
The paper deals with the study of energy conditions in the course of compaction and the properties of tablets from two types of the directly compressible sorbitol Sorbitab™ SD 250 and Sorbitab™ SD 500. The tested properties included tensile strength of tablets and disintegration time of tablets, examined in dependence on compression force, addition of two types of lubricants in two concentrations, and two types of active ingredients in one concentration. A comparison of both types of directly compressible sorbitol revealed that the negative moment in the use of Sorbitab SD 500 is the effect of the presence of lubricants on the strength...
Microparticles on the oxycellulose base - influence of processual variables on encapsulation efficiency
M. Bajerová, K. Dvořáčková, J. Gajdziok, R. Masteiková
Čes. slov. farm. 2010, 59(2):67-73
Microparticles have been a subject of intensive studies in pharmaceutical technology, their encapsulation efficiency being an important parameter in the preparation of microparticles. Higher values of encapsulation efficiency result in a more effective manufacturing process and subsequently in lower economic costs. This study aimed to prepare microparticles with the use of the method of outer gelation of the semisynthetic polymer oxycellulose with diclofenac using sodium salt as the model agent and to examine the influence of selected processual variables on the value of encapsulation efficacy. Processual variables included: the temperature of the...
Implementation of radio-frequency identification (RFID) in the process of preparation and administration of drugs - part 2
R. Goněc, Š. Kozáková, L. Doležalová
Čes. slov. farm. 2010, 59(2):74-78
The implementation of RFID technology in the process of prescription, preparation and administration of chemotherapy increases the safety of this process on the side of both the patient and attending healthcare personnel. The system enables a multiple and retrospective control of the constitution of the prepared medication as well as of the particular steps of the process. The human factor in the process of preparation and administration of chemotherapy is reduced due to this technology, thus avoiding possible errors. RFID technology is integrated with three different information systems that cover the individual phases of the process - prescription,...
Identification and susceptibility evaluation of Candida yeasts due to the optimization of ciclopiroxolamine release from mucoadhesive oral tablets
E. Mašková, J. Mašek, J. Gajdziok, M. Rabišková
Čes. slov. farm. 2010, 59(2):79-86
Oral candidosis represents a difficult and often recidivating complication in immunodeficient patients. Oral mucoadhesive tablets with prolonged release of a locally acting antifungal drug, e.g. ciclopiroxolamine, could contribute to their pharmacotherapy. For efficient therapy, the drug concentration present in oral cavity has to be determined, i.e. the drug content in the dosage form and its release have to be formed. The Theoretical Part of this paper aims to describe the basic characteristics of Candida yeasts and their induction of oral candidosis, to the possibilities of using standardized methods for detecting and determining their susceptibility...

Manufacture of granulates containing high potency drugs
A. Franc, M. Rabišková
Čes. slov. farm. 2010, 59(2):51-58
Granulation is one of the most widely spread technological procedures in the manufacture of solid oral dosage forms. With regard to the safety of work in the manufacture of tablets containing highly potent active ingredients, devices with a closed construction which during the process of manufacture prevent contamination of the surroundings and decrease health risk for the personnel are more widely used. They include one-step high-speed granulators, fluid granulators and integrated granulating systems connecting high-speed granulation with fluid drying. These devices make it possible to automate the whole process and they are equipped with automatic...

Medicinal preparations in Czech pharmacies at the end of the 17th century
P. Drábek
Čes. slov. farm. 2010, 59(2):87-94
The 17th century saw marked changes in pharmacotherapy. New preparations and new dosage forms (e.g. tinctures, elixirs and essences) were introduced. At the same time, some hitherto used preparations and dosage forms began to disappear (e.g. sief for the preparation of ophthalmic drops or the so-called condita). According to the Prague tariff list of 1699, the total number of medicinal preparations was increased to one thousand one hundred and fifty kinds, including several local specialities. In this period, the distinguished Prague physician S. A. Tudecius in his books recommended other preparations, many of which were later included into dispensatoria....
