Synthesis, identification and physicochemical properties of novel potential ultrashort-acting beta-adrenergic blockers
S. Kečkéšová, E. Sedlárová, J. Csöllei, P. Mokrý
Čes. slov. farm. 2008, 57(4):160-164
The paper deals with the synthesis, structure confirmation, and study of physicochemical properties of some aryloxyaminopropanol derivatives, compounds of 2-hydroxy-3-[4-(2-fluorophenyl)-piperazine-1-yl]-propyl-4-[(alkoxycarbonyl)amino]benzoates, their salts with hydrochloric acid, with one to four carbon atoms in the alkoxy group of the carbamoyl group. Their structure was confirmed by elemental analysis, IR, UV and mass spectra. The melting point, solubility, surface activity, dissociation constant, and some lipophilicity parameters, i.e. partition coefficient P, RM values from reversed phase thin-layer chromatography, and retention factor k obtained...
Characterization of microcrystalline celluloses by means of the parameters of a three-exponential compression equation
M. Řehula, T. Rysl
Čes. slov. farm. 2008, 57(4):165-169
The study compares microcrystalline celluloses by means of the parameters of the three-exponential equation V/V0 = A1*exp(-P/t1) + A2*exp(-P/t2) + A3*exp(-P/t3) + y01). The process of compression, according to this equation, takes place in three stages: in the stage of reduction of interparticular pores, reduction of intraparticular pores, and in the stage of reduction of the solid substance without pores. The classic theory of compression is based on the fact that the individual processes take place within the ranges of concrete compression pressures....
A study of the properties of tablets from two types of directly compressible xylitol
J. Mužíková, H. Komínková
Čes. slov. farm. 2008, 57(4):170-176
The paper deals with the study of tensile strength and disintegration time of tablets from two types of directly compressible xylitol, Xylitab 100 and Xylitab 200, in dependence on compression force, addition of two types of lubricants in one concentration, and two types of active ingredients. Tablets were compressed using the compression forces of 6, 8, and 10 kN, in the case of tableting materials with active ingredients, only 10 kN. The lubricants employed were magnesium stearate and sodium stearyl fumarate at the concentration of 1%, the active ingredients, ascorbic acid and acetylsalicylic acid at the concentration of 50%. The strength of tablets...

Actual acidity of the environment and efficacy of auxiliary substances used for antimicrobial stabilization of medicinal preparations prepared in pharmacies
J. Šubert, J. Kolář
Čes. slov. farm. 2008, 57(4):157-159
In the context of the data from the professional literature, the paper discusses the recommendation of the State Institute for Drug Control in Prague to pharmacies and several other problems related to the effect of the pH of the environment on the antimicrobial effect of methylparabene, propylparabene, peracetic acid, benzalkonium-chloride, carbethopendecinium-bromide, thiomersal, phenyl hydrargyrium borate, and sorbic acid in medicinal preparations prepared in pharmacies.

Antiradical activity of substances with a potential effect on the cardiovascular system
R. Opatřilová, Z. Kupková, J. Csöllei
Čes. slov. farm. 2008, 57(4):177-180
After the discovery of the antioxidant protection of biological systems, free radicals and their effects became the subject of intensive research in the process of various types of diseases. The paper focuses on the study of antiradical activity of substances from the group of heteroarylethanolamines. The site of action of these substances is the cardiovascular system, where endothelial dysfunctions may develop, oxidation of cholesterol takes place, etc. A highly reactive free radical is dinitrogen oxide (NO.), developing endogenously by the action of NO-synthase (NOS) enzyme. The principal disintegration product of an aqueous solution of nitrogen...
Monitoring of pharmacotherapy in seniors of rest homes in Brno region
L. Bartošíková, J. Nečas, T. Bartošík, J. Fráňová
Čes. slov. farm. 2008, 57(4):181-186
Polypharmacy is a problem of growing importance in today's medicine. It has many negative impacts on the patient and healthcare system alike. Seniors with multiple co-morbidities are more likely to be on multiple medications, and therefore they are at higher risk of developing serious side effects or interactions. The aim of the study was to monitor pharmacotherapy of seniors in the rest homes in the Brno region. The study included 72 patients, 26 men and 46 women, of the average age of 84.9 years. Polypharmacy was detected in 92% cases. The number of the most widely prescribed drugs which were medicated in 10 or more patients is 13. Drug interactions...
