Preparation of Pharmaceuticals in Pharmacies I. Contemporary Situation from the Viewpoint of Computer Records

B. Macešková, L. Chlebníčková

Čes. slov. farm. 2006, 55(2):61-64

Pharmaceuticals prepared in pharmacies represent approximately 5 % of the total number of dispensed packages, in financial terms approximately 2.3 % of the total turnover of a pharmacy. For the preparation of pharmaceuticals, 70 % of pharmacies under study use computer files of prescriptions. In most cases, the number of recorded prescriptions does not exceed 150, both for preparations made in larger amounts and those made individually. But not all prescriptions are really used. On the other hand, frequently required prescriptions are often missing. Prescriptions used in pharmacies of different regions are similar or identical. The computer files of...

Effect of Dissolution Medium on the Release of Diltiazem Hydrochloride from Carbomeric Matrices

M. Sedláková, M. Rabišková, E. Švajdlenka

Čes. slov. farm. 2006, 55(2):65-71

The paper focuses on the study of the effect of pH of dissolution medium on the release of diltiazem hydrochloride from carbomeric matrices. Swelling of carbomers, high-molecular cross-linked anionic polymers, is dependent on the value of pH, which decides whether these polymers exist in an ionized or a non-ionized form. In alkaline medium, carboxylic groups of carbomers ionize and hydrate markedly, which also facilitates their interaction with cationic drugs, in this case with diltiazem hydrochloride. The development of a sparingly soluble complex drug-polymer, the presence of which was demonstrated with the use of Fourier IR spectrophotometry, is...

A Study of the Properties of Tablets from Mixtures of Two Size Degrees of α-Lactose Monohydrate and Microcrystalline Cellulose

J. Mužíková

Čes. slov. farm. 2006, 55(2):72-77

The paper examines the strength and disintegration time of compacts from the mixtures of two types of Tablettosas, Tablettosa 70 and Tablettosa 100 with microcrystalline cellulose represented by Vivapur 102. The mixtures of dry binders were prepared in the ratios of 3:1, 1:1, and 1:3. The effect of two concentrations of the lubricant magnesium stearate on the strength and disintegration time of compacts was also examined. Tablet strength increased with higher representation of microcrystalline cellulose in the mixture, and decreased with higher stearate concentration. The compacts from the mixtures with Tablettosa 100 showed higher strength. Disintegration...

Morin in the Therapy of the Ischemia-Reperfusion Damage Model of the Rat Kidney

L. Bartošíková, J. Nečas, V. Suchý, D. Jankovská, E. Janoštíková, T. Bartošík, J. Klusáková, J. Juřica, T. Florian, M. Frydrych, J. Krčmář, P. Fráňa, J. Fráňová

Čes. slov. farm. 2006, 55(2):78-83

The aim of this study was to analyze the protective effects of morin administered during the therapy of reperfusion injury of the laboratory rat kidney. Animals were randomly divided into five groups (n=10). One group was left intact. Three medicated groups and one placebo group were subjected to ischemia (60 min) and reperfusion of the left kidney. Morin was suspended in a 2 ml of 0.5% Avicel solution and administered orally by a gastric probe at doses of 5, 10, and 20 mg.kg-1 once a day for 15 days. The placebo group was given only 2 ml of 0.5% Avicel in the same way. On the 15th day, all the animals were exsanguinated and the reperfused...

Drugs and Preparations for the Treatment of Burns

D. Matušová, E. Truplová

Čes. slov. farm. 2006, 55(2):51-54

The paper summarizes drugs and preparations used and developed for the treatment of skin burns and presents the modes of defect treatment from the aspect of preventing microbial contamination, contact regulation with the external environment (breathing, humidity exchange, thermoregulation), healing, and formation of a new functional tissue. Its attention is focused on various types of substitutes of the damaged or absent skin - autografts, allografts, xenografts, and synthetic dressings as well as combined preparations.

Natural Derivatives of 4H-Pyran-4-one

Medicinal Preparations in the Czech Translation of Saliceto's Treatise on Surgery

P. Drábek

Čes. slov. farm. 2006, 55(2):84-87

The Latin treatise on surgery by the Italian physician Guglielmo da Saliceto (ca 1210 to 1276-1280) lists about 300 kinds of medicinal and galenic preparations, the most frequently prescribed ones being oils, ointments, and cataplasms. The compositions of Saliceto's prescriptions are simplified in comparison with the then prescription habits and contain a greater number of chemical active ingredients. Preparation of ophthalmic drops by means of distillation or boiling on a water bath deserves special attention. The treatise was translated into Czech in the first half of the 15th century and provided the basis for Czech pharmaceutical terminology.
