Osteoporosis (OP) is a systemic skeletal disease characterized by an imbalance of bone remodelling process due to the prevalence of osteoresorption over osteosynthesis. As a result of these changes, the decrease in bone mass and density occur followed by an increase in fracture risk1). Its clinical manifestation is initially asymptomatic but in the course of time it is quite the contrary - really severe (bone pain, movement disorders, fractures) with a lot of further adverse consequences, including death2). Enhancing of drug bioavailability using liquisolid system formulation

Jan Gajdziok, Barbora Vraníková

Čes. slov. farm. 2015, 64(3):55-66 | DOI: 10.36290/csf.2015.018

One of the modern technologies of how to ensure sufficient bioavailability of drugs with limited water solubility is represented by the preparation of liquisolid systems. The functional principle of these formulations is the sorption of a drug in a liquid phase to a porous carrier (aluminometasilicates, microcrystalline cellulose, etc.). After addition of further excipients, in particular a coating material (colloidal silica), a powder is formed with the properties suitable for conversion to conventional solid unit dosage forms for oral administration (tablets, capsules). The drug is subsequently administered to the GIT already in a dissolved state,...

David Koupý, Hana Kotolová, Jana Rudá Kučerová

Čes. slov. farm. 2015, 64(3):67-71 | DOI: 10.36290/csf.2015.019

Fenugreek seeds are known for their characteristic smell of soup seasoning and as an ingredient of Indian curry. Traditionally the seeds are used as macerate for the treatment of diabetes, cough, and flatulence, to increase breast milk secretion, and for anti-inflammatory and aphrodisiac effects. The use is limited by its unpleasant smell and bitter taste which can be modified by adding mint leaves to the macerate. Antidiabetic properties are attributed mainly to galactomannan, 4-hydroxyisoleucin (4-OH-Ile), diosgenin and trigonelline. These substances demonstrate direct antidiabetic properties in clinical studies by increasing insulin secretion (4-OH-Ile),...
