The paper describes the preparation of a series of six new organic ammonium salts of amphiphilic character, derived from amine alcohol, of the general structure: CH3(CH2)9CH(OH)CH2N + (CH3)2R Br -R = C6 - C12 A part of the synthesis of the above-mentioned compounds is also the preparation of 1-bromo-2-dodecanol. The aggregation properties of these compounds in aqueous solution, expressed by the valuesof the critical concentration of micelle formation (Table 2), and antimicrobial activity, expressed bythe minimum inhibitory concentration (Table 3), in dependence on the step-by-step lengthening of the alkyl chain while preserving the principal structure (2-hydroxydodecyl and methyl bound to the quaternary nitrogen) were examined.
